ArtStories - S.K.U.L.P.T

ArtStories is a series of short films I'm producing, telling the stories of local Portishead artists. We hear artists discussing their art, their methods and their inspiration. The short films will be released throughout the year documenting the art community in Portishead, UK.

In this second episode we speak to S.K.U.L.P.T

Jorge Mata studied pottery at Plymouth College of Art (PCA) and has been making ceramic artwork for 7 years. He founded the S.K.U.L.P.T Workshop at Carey’s Home & Garden, on Portishead High Street, 2 years ago, where he offers pottery lessons to both amateur and experienced potters. He takes commissions and sells both sculptures and functional pottery.

Mata's current style of work often employs finishes in rustic, earthy colours and physically draws inspiration from techniques such as ‘kurinuki’ which is a Japanese style of making. Over time, his work evolves and changes incrementally as he continues to experiment with new techniques and glazes, ensuring that he is always making something new and exciting.
